Generating a Spelling File

Generate/spellingfile1.gif

Access this tool from the Book palette or from a custom palette or custom menu that you have configured with the Spelling File - Generate tool.

Use the Spelling File - Generate tool to build a text file listing the content of the entire book or a page range. You are prompted to select the name and location for saving the file. The utility recommends a .doc extension to make it easy to launch Microsoft Word after the file is created, but any extension is acceptable.

You have a number of options so that you can generate a file of only the data you want:

Pages: You can select all pages, no pages (e.g., if you just want background or properties), or a range by page number.

Backgrounds: You can select all backgrounds, none of them, or select by background which ones you want included.

Catalog objects. You can include Questions to export feedback, answer text, etc. You can also include the instructions and feedback associated with simulation objects.

Data: You can include page numbers, object names, and object IDs. We recommend including all of these to make it easier to find your objects for making corrections.

Page user properties: Some developers include content in user properties of pages. You can export all of them, none of them, or enter the names of the ones you want. If you select Listed and want the tool to populate the list with the user properties of the current page, click the "AutoFill" button.

Background user properties: Some developers include content in user properties of backgrounds. You can export all of them, none of them, or enter the names of the ones you want. If you select Listed and want the tool to populate the list with the user properties of the current background, click the "AutoFill" button.

Book user properties: Some developers include content in user properties of the book. You can export all of them, none of them, or enter the names of the ones you want. If you select Listed and want the tool to populate the list with the user properties of the book, click the "AutoFill" button.

To see the progress in writing the file in the Command Window, check that box at the bottom of the dialog box.

Note: you can collapse this dialog by clicking on the collapse graphic (Generate/collapseBtn.gif) at the top of the screen and then expand it again by clicking the expand graphic (Generate/expandBtn.gif).

The file lists the page number/name and then each field text, recordfield text, button caption, comboBox text and dropDownItems, CBT Question answers and feedback, simulation text such as instructions and feedback on the page or background, regardless of whether the objects are hidden or grouped. You can spell check the file in the word processor of your choice. You are prompted to launch the default editor for the file type specified once the file has been created. Make a note of any errors and then fix them in ToolBook.
