Batch Import

You click on this button on the Modify Students screen to import student information from a delimited text file, which must be of a defined format.

Progress Tracker prompts you for each piece of information in turn.

1. The first choice is what you are using for the delimiter. The default is TAB. For another character, type it in the field and click OK.

2. You next select the text file that contains the students to be imported. Note that this file must be a defined format.

3. We don't allow the student passwords to be included in the import file for security reasons. However, you can define a default password that will be assigned to all imported students. If you want this, type the password into the field. Otherwise, you can leave this box blank.

4. The final box allows the batch import to work with files that have a row of "header information" that describes each column. If your file has this header row, click "Yes" so that Progress Tracker Administrator will not try to interpret this row as student data.

If your data had errors or if it contained students that were already present in the database, then you will receive an error message like the one below and no students will be imported.

If the imported data itself contained duplicate records, you will still receive an error message. However, all non-duplicate students will be successfully imported.
